Goldbergs Possible Return

Despite all previous read rumours regarding the future of Bill Goldberg, it looks as though WWE have opted to reopen negotiations with him. The reason for this appears to be due to the loss of big names such as Brock Lesnar leaving the company, and Kurt Angle on the shelf for the time being, WWE are getting short of natural main-event stars.

WWE officials have offered Goldberg a new deal, which would see him work limited dates such as PPVs and some T.V shows. WWEs goal was to set up a large program between Goldberg and Steve.

While many believe that Goldberg will return to the company, however once the time and money are right. Goldberg has been asking the question of whether it will benefit his career if he stayed of WWE television for a while, or whether to return to WWE television quickly so that fans dont forget about him.

Yuvraj stands alone after Gul heroics

April 5, 2004

Pakistan 61 for 1 (Farhat 25*, Hameed 4*) trail India 287 all out (Yuvraj 112, Pathan 49, Gul 5-31) by 226 runs
Scorecard

Two men who started this series on the periphery of things grabbed the limelight on an enthralling opening day's play at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. First, Umar Gul a late replacement for Shabbir Ahmed bowled a magnificent spell that reduced India to 147 for 7, and then Yuvraj Singh, in only his third Test, stroked a glorious 129-ball 112 to take his side to 287. By stumps, Pakistan had knocked off 61 from the deficit, for the loss of Taufeeq Umar.

India's innings, after Rahul Dravid won the toss, had three distinct phases dominance, collapse, and eventual recovery to a total that was nevertheless somewhat below par. For a 90-minute spell either side of lunch, when Gul's control of line and length fetched him splendid figures of 5 for 31, it appeared as though they might not reach 180, but Yuvraj and Irfan Pathan who showed genuine class with the bat evened up matters with a 117-run partnership characterised by some stunning strokeplay.

Hoggard hat-trick sinks West Indies

Once upon a time, Bridgetown was a fortress of West Indian cricket. But those days are long gone, and another abject batting performance by West Indies allowed England to wrap-up the series with a nine-wicket win. For an hour today there was a contest, but Matthew Hoggard's remarkable mid-morning hat-trick ripped the guts out of the West Indies innings and they never recovered, eventually being bowled out for 94.

"Things like this you have to take in your stride and appreciate."After all the years I've put in and worked hard, with my family and friends, you get the rewards and I'm just pleased for everyone," he told Sky Sports News."That's what it's all about," he said. "It's about luck, being in the right place at the right time. We can't ask for any more. We're just thankful."The club has come a long way along with the fans. It's something for them not just for us. It's a special day."Man United, meanwhile, may win some silverware this season yet. After falling out of the Champions League and falling behind in the race for the Premiership title, the Red Devils got some revenge on Arsenal with their triumph over the Gunners.Paul Scholes became the hero in the 32nd minute when he one-timed a driven cross from Ryan Giggs from inside the area past Arsenal 'keeper Jens Lehmann."I am pleased for the lads and I'm pleased for the supporters, they were fantastic. If you needed an extra man, that was it," United boss Alex Ferguson said. "You always hope to win a trophy every year and I hope we'll be able to now."United custodian Roy Carroll made two spectacular saves to preserve the win -- thwarting chances by Dennis Bergkamp and Kolo Toure -- while Wes Brown cleared a sure equalizer by the Gunners inside the opening five minute.Adu and Patrick Vieira also hit the woodwork for the luck-less Gunners."That gave us that bit of luck we needed," Ferguson added. "We started quite well in the first few minutes but the best chances came to them."United has won 10 FA Cup semifinal matches under Ferguson and are now tipped to take their first trophy since their treble-winning season in 1999."People say there is nothing worse than losing a semifinal, well I think there is, you can lose a final," United skipper Roy Keane said. "Today was a very important match for us. At the start of every season we talk about our aims for the season."Unfortunately, we have come up short in Europe and we have fallen behind in the league."We knew this was our only chance of getting something and it still is. But we have only won the semifinal, we have another game to play yet."Meanwhile, Arsenal will be without Jose Antonio Reyes and Freddie Ljungberg for their Champions League and Premiership title run-ins.Reyes is expected to miss three weeks after suffering knee ligament damage while Ljungberg broke is hand and will be out indefinitely."Especially on Reyes I feel there was a very bad tackle," said Wenger, whose team are still challenging for the premier league title and the Champions League," Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said. "For us it is a big blow to lose two players today because we have a short squad. That is a massive blow."

Saving the best for last

Andrew Raycroft

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) _ The Boston Bruins earned an edge for at least the first two rounds of the playoffs by making the New Jersey Devils' road to consecutive Stanley Cup titles a little tougher.Glen Murray set up a goal and scored another in a big first-period, and the Bruins won the Northeast Division title and helped take away the Atlantic Division crown from the Devils with a 3-1 win on Sunday.``It's absolutely a relief,'' goaltender Andrew Raycroft said after the Bruins bounced back from a loss at home to New Jersey to win the division. ``It's a huge win going into the playoffs, coming on the road and beating New Jersey at home. It gives us a lot of confidence.''The Bruins, who played without star center Joe Thornton for the second straight game because of what's being called an upper body injury by the team, will face the Montreal Canadiens in a best-of-7 series starting on Wednesday in Boston. The Bruins, the second seed in the Eastern Conference, won the season series with the seventh-seeded Canadiens 3-0-1-2.``I think our confidence going in is as good as it has ever been since I've been here,'' Bruins forward Mike Knuble said. ``Guys around here, I don't know if it's the lockout or what, but guys are ready to bear down and play well.''The Devils didn't do that in blowing a chance to win a second straight division title.New Jersey would have won the Atlantic with a second straight win over the Bruins. However, the Devils come out flat in the first period, letting the Bruins score three times.Coupled with the Flyers' 3-3 tie with the New York Islanders, the Devils finished a point behind Philadelphia in the Atlantic Division. The Flyers, the third seed, will now have home-ice advantage in their first-round series with New Jersey, the sixth seed.Philadelphia won the season series, taking the final three games.``It is a big deal,'' Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur said. ``We had a chance. It was in our hands. They (the Bruins) really wanted it. I thought we played pretty good but they got some breaks early and they sat on the lead.''The Devils posted a 12-1 record at the Continental Airlines Arena last year in winning their third title since 1995.Travis Green and Sergei Samsonov also scored for Boston, while Raycroft made 13 saves. After failing to win the division title at home Saturday in a 5-2 loss to the Devils, the Bruins needed a win to secure their second division title in three years. While they were without Thornton, the good news was the Bruins were on the road, where they had gotten points in 15 of their last 16 games. The Bruins dominated from the start, scoring twice in the opening 2:51 and three times in the first 15:17, while limiting New Jersey to one shot.``We're thrilled,'' Bruins coach Mike Sullivan said. ``We had an opportunity to win our division, arguably the best division in the NHL. That was something we wanted to accomplish.''Green put the Bruins ahead 57 seconds after the opening faceoff. Murray made a check behind the goal line that allowed Patrice Bergeron to pass the puck in front. It hit off the skate of the Devils' John Madden, and Green fired it past Brodeur.Murray stretched the lead to 2-0 with Turner Stevenson off for tripping. Nick Boynton took a shot from the point that Michael Nylander and Knuble touched in front before Murray scored on the rebound.Samsonov beat Brodeur with a shot from above the left circle after taking a drop pass from Nylander to make it 3-0.Patrik Elias had the Devils' best chances in the first two periods. He had a power-play shot hit off the post in the first period and he was stopped in close by Raycroft in the second period, when chants of ``Let's go Islanders'' could be heard in the arena. It didn't work.Raycroft lost his shutout when Jamie Langenbrunner scored on a power play with less than nine minutes to play. The game got a little chippy in the final 10 minutes after Bruins defenseman Dan McGillis hit Brian Gionta with an elbow in the head. Hal Gill of Boston and Stevenson fought during the ensuing power play.
